Weekend Wandering 2.27.16


Everywhere we turn, it seems spring is beginning to nudge her way through the long winter days.  Cattle are getting ready to birth their spring babies.  Forest trails are muddy with melting snow.  Crocuses and hyacinths are poking their way up from the rich earth.  Somehow, as the earth tilts toward the sun and the light graces us for a minute or two longer each day, we feel the urge to clear the clutter that has gathered during the long, cold days behind us.  I don’t know where that urge comes from, but it seems that spring is synonymous with clearing out and starting fresh…

So we’ve gathered a bit of motivation here this morning as we all look forward to a bit of spring cleaning and decluttering!

    This is an online meditation I'm doing this year. It has the advantage of not asking you to work fast!

    –For clearing to last, you need to put yourself first. You won't make a dent in reducing the stress and stuff until you've healed the patterns that created it. If you don't feel safe, you won't let go. Clearing is an inside job that begins and ends with you.
    –For clearing to last, you need to change your mindset. Clearing is not something you "do" or squeeze into your life. It's a way of life – a journey – that doesn't always add up, make sense, or go in a straight line. Clearing is not about "getting rid of." It's about letting go of the things and thoughts that get in the way of realizing your true nature and best life.
    –For clearing to last you need to slow down. Clearing old habits and resisting behaviors is not possible until you slow it …way… down. In a world that is all about speed, this requires awareness. Daily doses of it. "Slow drip" efforts applied consistently over time are the real game changer here.

    I started reading about the Konmori method in the 'life-changing magic of tidying up" based on your favorite books of the year. I can say that I am chomping at the bit to get going with her method – but know I need a good chunk of time that I don't have until this session of school is over. I really can't wait to try it and see what a difference it will make. That plus good weather is giving me a good case of spring fever!
