Visiting Dimples

I’m in Montana visiting Dimples today. I arrived yesterday after a quick trip through beautiful north Idaho and western Montana. The cottage was just gathering to have a “check in” time where the kids talk about how their day is going. Once we were done, Dimples and I talked about what the two of us should do.  It took her a little while to settle on an activity – she didn’t want to show me pictures of her recent backpacking trip, or cook dinner for the cottage with me. After some discussion, she asked if I wanted to paint. Now, I have to admit, I’m no artist, but I figured it was worth a shot.

We painted for quite awhile and it was such a great time together – sitting side by side, a little bit of conversation, but no pressure. We paused and admired each other’s work from time to time. When we were done, I wrote a little note on my painting and hung it on her bulletin board as a reminder of our nice afternoon.

Tomorrow we have a therapy appointment in the morning and a little more time together before I need to head home.

I’m feeling spread very thin, yet thankful that my days are filled with people I love. If you think of us, please pray that Dimples and I will have a good day today and that my drive home will be safe and easy.

Friends, thank you for sharing my life and praying for my family. You are a blessing to me.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

Heidi, I read that verse just before I went into therapy with Dimples…that's kind of amazing.
