Update on Carolyn and Her Daughter

We got an email from Carolyn this morning saying that she has taken Y. from the hospital to the guest house, although she is still quite ill. She has pneumonia and parasites and is very weak. Here is an update from a friend:

They’re having a rough time of it, but Carolyn’s faith is sustaining her in this. Y. was in the hospital until this morning but Carolyn took her out because it didn’t seem to be doing much good since her veins kept blowing and thus the IVs were not really having an effect, and given that the guest house seemed to be a better place to be. She had her embassy medical appointment today and is hoping to have her embassy appointment to submit the visa application and waiver on Wed at 2 pm (Ethiopia time). It is unclear how much they will be able to expedite the waiver process even given this serious situation. She has pneumonia and parasites and they don’t know what else. She has had a terrible time keeping her medicines down (keeping anything down) and they are concerned about that, obviously. They are bonding and she is able to mother her so much through this situation although it is heartbreaking. She says she feels very supported by the prayers and well wishes of so many people and for people to please continue to pray.

Thank you to everyone who has asked how they are doing. Please continue to pray for Y. and Carolyn. We hope they will be home in the U.S. before we arrive in Addis, but if not, we’ll see them in less than a week.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.
