Two Momentous Evenings

Tonight we took a professional family portrait in celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary. I ironed thirteen white shirts, did hair, and basically devoted the day to preparing. This portrait means a lot to me and I expect it is something we’ll cherish. It is the first professional family portrait we have had done since….well…ever.

Last night we had a Send-Off party for Sweet Pea who is leaving for Seattle and her second year of medical school on Wednesday. We are going to miss her. The photo above is of her with her little sisters. Mimi hadn’t arrived at the party yet when we took it. Thank you to all of our family and friends who came to wish her well.

It has been a full weekend and it is only Saturday night!

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

What a beautiful idea to do it after 25 years of marriage. The picture of the girls is absolutely precious. I can't wait to see the family picture!

Hi Lisa, I just randomly ended up on your blog and just spent the last hour and a half reading old posts. I just wanted to tell you that I think you are amazing! Wow. I'm pretty sure you are the definition of super mom. My husband and I have just begun our adoption journey, and are in the painful waiting stages. I can only pray that one day, when I have those precious babies in my arms that I'll be half the mother you are.

I especially want to thank you for all the books, articles and website resources you post. Though we are not at this point looking to adopt an older child or a child from a traumatic background, I do worry quite a bit about infant attachment, and have found so many of your suggestions helpful. here I come!

Anyway, you are truly inspirational, and I will definitely be checking back often. Thank you.
