Today at Our House

This is what a busy day of wedding prep will do to a little guy. When I finally headed upstairs last night, I found him sleeping on my bed with books scattered all around.

There is lots going on, and I want to remember to be thankful, so here I go.

Russ’ birthday today, and his sons taking him out for breakfast

birthday pie when they get back

helpful daughters and bridesmaids

the backyard sparkling with lights

groomsmen and friends hauling tables and chairs

rain today…because hopefully that means it won’t rain tomorrow – at least not during the reception

Katie’s family arriving

kids singing last night; there’s not much that makes my heart happier

suits the wrong sizes, but guys able to trade around

homemade salted caramel sauce

I started this early this morning, since then people have been coming and going all day.  Tables and chairs have been picked up. Mimi is doing a trial run of Katie’s make up and she looks lovely. The rehearsal is at 5:30 followed by dinner at our house at 7:00.

We appreciate your prayers for a joyful and rain-free wedding tomorrow.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

I sent you an email before checking to see if you posted today. (I don't know how you do it but I want to be you when I grow up.) The message I sent you was just this: wishes for a joyous day, preferably without rain. May you all enjoy every minute of this wonderful celebration of love, joy and commitment.
