Time with Dimples

We’re on our way home from our first visit with Dimples. The visit got off to a difficult start, but with lots of help from staff, the day came together and by Saturday evening we were playing cards and hugging before we left. I have lots to process, so for now, I’ll give thanks.

hope for healing

I’m writing this Saturday night. Tomorrow we’ll return to the cottage for breakfast and then I’ll teach one of the counselors how to tighten Dimples’ locs. We plan to head for home at noon.  It took us 8 hours to get here in lots of snow; we’re hoping for a much faster return trip.

My heart is full of thanksgiving that the Lord made it possible for Dimples to come to this program where God is honored, families are welcomed and supported, and children are healed.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

I know that opening up your life is not easy but from one of the many families that is blessed by your journey, Thank you! You help me process and understand unconditional love, healing and triumph in a different way for all 6 of my blessings who have come to us through adoption.

How wonderful to have the chance to teach one of the counselors how to tighten locs–that is such a great connection you have with Dimples–a way that she is thankful to receive your care and see you help others know how to care for her, too. Thank you, Lord, for locs. 🙂 We continue to pray and yearn for healing and that the Lord's peace to surround you all.
