The Big Camping Party

Long ago we established a tradition of giving our children a “Friends Party” on their 5, 10, and 15 year birthdays. When we only had six children, this system resulted in one or two parties per year, which I loved.

Of course, every year the children have a family celebration that includes choosing a sweet cereal for breakfast, selecting the menu for dinner, including the cake and ice cream, and getting gifts. Grandparents and other special friends often join us for dinner.

This year Ladybug planned her ten year party and next year Honeybee will plan an eleven year party. Ladybug debated for a long time and finally chose to have a camping birthday party. The girls came home muddy, smelling like the campfire, and happy as could be.

My t-shirt raffle ends on September 30th. A one dollar donation buys one chance at the t-shirt of your choice. Your donation goes directly to AHOPE. I’ll post the winner’s first name on October 1st! Thank you to everyone who has already donated – I’m excited to see who the winner will be.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

Good thing she is your daughter…you know I believe in sending all my socuts (both boy and girl) camping while I stay home in my warm cozy bed! It sure looks like they had fun.
