2. Zoe’s* little sister having a sleepover last night

3. Wogayu stepping into the “big brother” role

4. books – even when there are so many I feel compelled to read all at once to find information for my family

5. homemade chicken and rice soup

6. learning not to stress over my kids’ grades – this is progress, friends

7. years of homeschooling when grades and gpa’s didn’t exist – and my kids were just fine

8. faith which gives hope

9. friends who make me laugh

10. friends with good taste who give much-needed advice

How about you? What are you thankful for today?

encourage one another,

Lisa

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

Oh my, I do understand the grades part! Please help me not stress over them! And please help one particular son to at least pass… And I’m so grateful for the ones still homeschooling that I don’t have to worry about grades for.
Thank you for reminding me to be grateful!

I am thankful for my ego-crushing dressing-down by a misinformed boss, that resulted in my being asked to resign from a job I loved with a passion. It was utterly heartbreaking, but gave me extended time at home with my kids at the beginning of a hectic school year. And I was offered a much better- paying, less trauma-inducing job yesterday! I will still get to make a difference for children and young parents, but I will also be able to pay my bills and make it to my kids’ medical appointments. Thank you, God for the gift of being discarded and then found.

God has the most interesting ways of changing the course of our lives when we least expect it. To be discarded and found…that’s a theme we adoptive parents need to sit with sometimes.
