Surprised by Kindness

Remember my post about Dimples and beef jerky?  One of my readers (Hi Teresa!) shared it with her family and decided to bless Dimples with a surprise. They mailed her five big packages of beef jerky!  You can only imagine her delight at this surprise (and the lump in my throat at their kindness).

As Teresa later said in an email, “I hope and pray that Dimples is gradually learning that God WILL provide for her and meet her needs…sometimes through her lovely family, church family, friends, and sometimes even through a stranger.”

This blog has brought so many unexpected joys to our family — thank you for being part of my life through your comments and sometimes in surprising ways!

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

Oh my goodness! That made me cry… and made me finally de-lurk. What a lovely way to learn about God's faithfulness. Bon apetit, Dimples!

What a special treat for momma and daughter and blogging friend. It makes me think we need to all send packages of beef jerky to orphanages in Ethiopia this Christmas!

I love her hair too! My friend's daughter did it for me and I think it is going to last for awhile. Madison is the same girl who ran the half marathon to raise funds for HIV+ kids – she has a generous heart.

I was thinking the same thing. Super cute – going to have to pick up some colored bands. Haven't used those before.

Those elastics were really inexpensive and from Sally Beauty Supply. I bought several packages when I found them. Thanks for the compliment!

I was also thinking it was cute, and wondering how you learned how to fix her hair, since it is a bit different from yours. 🙂

I learned a lot about doing my girls' hair from the videos on the Sharuba website: http://www.shuruba.com/

There is also a popular hair website that I can't think of at the moment. The author has two daughters with two different types of curly hair. Can somebody give us the name of the site?

I did much better with their hair when Sweet Pea lived at home because we would often braid together. I'm thankful that Madison did it for me this time!
