giving thanks #1561 – 1570

Jesus and His great love for us

the privilege of being Kalkidan’s (Dimples’) parents – the Lord counted us worthy of her

Russ holding me close and keeping us stable when it seems we’re about to capsize

our children gathering around and loving one another

friends and family who keep showing up to meet our needs

a clean house thanks to friends

amazing dinners thanks to friends

the promises we read in scripture – His word is true

your words – I know that many of you sent emails which I plan to begin reading tomorrow. Thank you so very much. Your cards that have come in the mail are so sweet and life-giving to me.

your prayers – thank you for every word you offer in prayer for us.

Today we celebrate Isaiah’s birthday; can you believe we’ve had three birthdays since the accident? We’re trying very hard to pause and give thanks for the life we’ve been given and to reassure the younger children that we will be okay – we will still celebrate birthdays, and go to school, and one day I’ll cook dinner again, and we’ll find a way to live. For now, we are breathing in and out and holding one another close.

Thank you so very much, friends. I never dreamed I would be asking you to walk through this with me, but I know that many of you will.

Lisa

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

Oh Lisa your love for Dimples has been an anchor for me in the midst of seeking to love my own children. Thank you for always living so authentically in the pain and joys of parenting. And now as you are in the thick of grief, I am thankful for your continued resolve to include us in your journey. It's our honor and privilege to pray for you as you trust Christ to carry you through this time. I am so sorry for your loss.

I am continuing to pray for all of you.
Do you know adoptive mom Tracie Loux, or her family? (her bother in law, Derek was a voice for orphans and father of many adopted children and passed away a few years a go) Tracy has been writing on keeping celebrations and helping siblings grieve after the loss of their son. http://tracieloux.wordpress.com/2015/01/11/four/
Thank you for keeping your heart thankful and open to share with us.

My heartfelt thoughts continue to go out to your family!! We lost a daughter, sibling, too!!' Such a hard hard experience for any one!! Hold each other tight & don't be afraid to openly grieve!! It's so hard for parents when your children are watching & you feel like u have to be strong but it actually helps your children to properly grieve!!

You have been on my heart since I heard. It took me many mornings to finally realize it was all not just a very bad dream. Praying for you and your family. His presence will uphold you and you will laugh again. I am so glad Dimples got to feel and know love while she was with you.

Ongoing, and continous prayers from strangers, like me. We are petitioning on your behalf, when you are awake and when you sleep. Praying for a blanket of peace to wrap around the shoulders of your children, Russ and you. Asking the Lord to take captive thoughts that only cause pain, and to replace them with the truths.

Your family is an inspiration to us all. Thank you so much for all you have shared. When I read about the accident and Dimples I was (and am still) without words. My thoughts are with your family as you band together and celebrate Dimples' life.

Your family is constantly in my thoughts and prayers. My prayer for you is the one you have encouraged your readers to pray-Jesus, son of God, have mercy! I'm praying also that in the midst of darkness, you would know that he is Immanuel-God with us & El Roi-the God who sees.

Yes, Lisa, we are walking through this with you. We never do dream of tragedy but when it happens in our lives how blessed we are who have a community of faith surrounding us. Thank you, Jesus, for carrying us when we are not able to walk ourselves. Amen.

Our honor and privilege absolutely. I'm grieving for your family more deeply then I understand and we are praying for your family. How you can write a "gratitude" post, is a testament to the fact that God is not dead…
