Snow and More Snow

One thing I love about Russ is that he always does things in a big way. He isn’t a showy guy, but he has big ideas. When he builds a snowman with the kids, it is big. The archway (in the photo) couldn’t be helped, after all, he is an engineer. I once asked him to build a little tree house for the kids and he did… with screened windows, a front door, and a little deck. I probably shouldn’t mention the ice rink I asked him to build once, since each year we debate whether or not to repeat it. The rink was great fun, but it took an incredible amount of time to maintain. Crazy!

Russ took the five youngest kids (everyone but Little Man) out on cross country skis today. They loved it! Honeybee enjoyed skiing so much more than I expected. Just before it got dark Ladybug and Boo went skiing for a second time. After awhile I went out on the front porch to check on them, and spotted them skiing together in the pasture. It was a sweet moment.

I hope you are enjoying your winter weather.

I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. Great pics!

My dh had the same BIG idea, but our snow was too dry to pack. Now, it’s just crunchy with an ice layer. But, we have had snow on the ground for over 3 weeks, which has got to be a record over on our side of the state. 🙂

The cross-country skiing sounds like so much fun. I used to cross-country ski (and downhill) when we lived on your side of the state. (before kids)

We ARE enjoying the snow. LOVE it … as I’ve always missed your winter weather, since moving to the “rainy side”.

    Blessings,

    Laurel 🙂

Oh, what great fun! We are kind of stuck inside (it has been -25 with windchill for a week). But we are outdoorsy people too! My husband wants to do the skating rink, badly, but I am not so sure it is a project we should undertake when living in the city. He will love to hear that you did successfully though! That is quite the snowman, Way to go guys!

If I remember correctly the ice rink was actually your idea. I was wondering if you were going to bust it out again this year, it would have been great during that cold snap.

I’m glad you got a picture of the arch, it really was awesome.
