She Did It !!!!

Sweet Pea’s dear friend and Sweet Pea ice skating.

I am very happy to announce that Sweet Pea has been accepted by the University of Washington School of Medicine! We are very excited, relieved, joyful, tearful, and happy to see this long journey of working to get into medical school end, and the new journey of becoming a doctor begin. Sweet Pea has worked very hard to get to this place and we are exceedingly proud of her, not only for her achievement, but also for hearing the voice of the Lord and fulfilling His calling on her life. It has not been an easy decision for our daughter, who also longs to be a wife and homeschooling mother, but we have no doubt that the Lord has great plans for her.

Sweet Pea (I know , I know, I need another nickname for her – suggestions welcome) interviewed at the UW on Thursday afternoon. She felt that it was her best interview and that it couldn’t have gone much better. They send acceptance letters in March, but on occasion they send a couple of early letters. I’m going to brag just a little bit about my daughter now because on Friday afternoon Sweet Pea got a call from the executive committee member of her interview panel who told her that the committee had just met and he was calling to offer her a spot in the 2008 incoming class. We were stunned and thrilled. We had been praying that she would get one offer so that she could know that she was going to medical school, but the Lord exceeded our expectations, as He often does, and Sweet Pea got a phone call 24 hours after her interview at the school that is her number one choice.

Blessings abound!

I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

Congratulations!!! I remember when Sweet Pea (Dr. H) talked to me about cholera when she was 4 years old! I guess God was preparing her for medicine even then. I was hoping for NY…. for my own selfish reasons! We are all thrilled for you. Julie In Ithaca
