Saturday Begins

Dimples and her therapist arrived at 4:00 yesterday. The afternoon and evening went well and we are hopeful that today will be similar. Today will be simple – breakfast, chores, grocery shopping, cooking for tonight, having a few friends over, then a big family dinner. It feels weighty, like I need to think consciously about every detail. We want to do all that we can to make this a successful visit, while also not making it so artificial that it is not helpful in preparing for the future.

Thank you for all of your prayers and your comments on my One Thankful Mom Facebook page. I know that so many of you care about Dimples and our family – I feel wrapped in your friendship.

I was interviewed on the Adoptions Perspective Radio Show last week. Rebecca is a fantastic interviewer and it felt very natural. This was unscripted, so all of those times I’ve said that I wish we could all sit down and have coffee together – this is a little bit like that. If you have time to listen, the YouTube recording is below. Be sure to “Like” the Adoptions Perspective Radio Show Facebook page.

Have a great weekend, friends.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

That was just like having coffee with you 🙂 The interviewer asked all the questions that I would have asked!

My prayers for you started when I woke up this morning. I know what a big deal this weekend is. I'm glad last night went well, and pray that the trend continues today. May it be a good time that is reassuring to everyone.

I've heard you tell your story before, but it was just as good the second time. You are so genuine, I'm always inspired. And, I want to thank you again for standing behind me (and others like me) in my decision to send my adopted son to school. It was a really hard decision, one that came with fellow homeschool moms who just didn't understand. But, it was the best decision we could have made. He's SO happy, and so are we.
This is a different topic, but I've been meaning to share how much the post about Ladybug's birthday impacted me. I make a point now to say, "I'm having the best day ever!" when people ask. The crazy thing is that I actually feel happier when I say this. Thanks Ladybug for being such a positive example.
