Raised to Live a New Life

Sunshine baptism

For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Romans 6:4

Last night Sunshine and Eby were baptized. I love baptisms; they make me cry as much as weddings. To see people publicly commit their lives to Jesus is incredible; to see my own children be baptized, well that just pretty much brings me to my knees. This was the first baptism in our new church building, and the place was packed; thirty-seven people were baptized.

When one of our pastors asked Eby why he wanted to baptized, he said, “I want everyone to know I’m a Christian.” Sunshine told us that she wants to live her life completely for Jesus, and we see evidence of that in her life every day.

Eby baptism

We baptized them together with our youth pastor and lots of family and friends who are invested in helping them grow in their faith. In the photos above, you can see us all crowded around. Nearly all of our big kids were there to share their special night.

Sunshine loved having her friends there to celebrate too.

There is nothing I want more for my children than that they follow Jesus – He’s the very, very best.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

Love how you phrased that – He's the very, very best. So sweet. Lovely to see your family celebrate together.
