Our Dossier is On Its Way!

Today our dossier left for Ethiopia. This is such good news! In a month or so, our court case will be scheduled and we hope to have a court date in early June. I’m a little hesitant to put this in writing, but we think we might travel to get B. in July. I can hardly believe it myself. From a decision to adopt on Feb. 21 to having her home in July, that is a downright miracle in my mind.

I still tell myself that we might not have her home until Christmas, or fall, but I’m not saying it with as much conviction as I was before.

Last Friday I spent several hours (full of interruptions from many small people) on Snapfish uploading photos for a small album and a t-shirt with our family picture on it for B. These will be given to her, along with two small gifts and letters from our us, when she is told that she has a family. I wish I could be there to see her face. She has waited a very long time for a family of her own. I can hardly bear to think of what she has felt as she has watched other friends leave with their new parents. We did it ourselves just a year ago, but now we are coming back to get her. God never let us forget her face, her name, or her sense of humor. He imprinted her on our hearts and made her our daughter.

Thanks be to God.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.
