Off to See My Girl!

The sun is rising, coffee is brewing, and I’m packing to go see my daughter! Hannah moved to Minneapolis for a surgical residency a year ago in June and this is my first opportunity to visit.  I can’t wait to see her life, meet her friends, cook in her kitchen, visit her church, and share some of her favorite places.

One of the sweet blessings of Hannah’s life is her Minneapolis family; you can read about them on Dorothy’s blog, Urban Servant. Dorothy is picking me up at the airport this afternoon and I suspect some wild and crazy times are in store for me.

Moms of little ones, they really do grow up and become not only your children, but precious friends. It’s a sweet and deep relationship that I love so much –  like the hugest prize at the end of a long race. I’m extremely blessed to have five children who are incredible young adults…not to mention a great son-in-law and a very special young woman that I’ll introduce to you soon.

I guess I had better go pack; it’s 6:15 and the suitcase is sitting empty in my room.  The good news is that I could probably show up with just my toothbrush and Hannah would have everything I need. I’m even hoping to find my next book group book on her shelves.

I’ll share some pictures soon!

Have a great Thursday, friends.

Lisa

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

Have a fabulous trip! We live just an hour and a half from Minneapolis, our son’s PID is in St. Paul and we spend lots of time there! Minneapolis is a GREAT city, and I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful visit. Well, I’m sure you’d have a great visit with your girl if you were flying to Siberia…but I’m positive Mpls will add some special joys 🙂

Please share at least one pic from your time with Dorothy and her brood! It makes me so so so happy that you two families are in the same "village" and may you both be blessed overwhelmingly by the visit. Much love to you all!

Yay for trips! We are going to visit my brother and his wife in MI and then on to OH for a wedding, leaving tomorrow. It is a lot of work to pack this many people for that kind of a trip, but I'm looking forward to visiting family and friends.

You're coming at a great time! The weather has cooled and it looks like a great couple of days coming up! Hope you get to see some of our great land…there is an Ethiopian New Year Celebration on Sunday afternoon at Fort Snelling park (near the airport/St. Paul) from 1-6 although most people arrive sometime after 2:30.

Thanks for the encouragement that the little ones not only grow up but have potential to be your friends one day! It's good for me to remember in these "little" days where we are headed one day!
