My Glass-Full Girl

Today is Ladybug’s 15th birthday. She is possibly the most joyful person I know and I am so honored to be her mom.  Her best friend, Emily, wrote a character sketch about Ladybug that made me laugh, so today I’m going to share parts of it with you.

Does life sometimes feel monotonous? If it does, then you should probably befriend Ladybug. This isn’t hard considering that she’s known for her bubbly, extremely extroverted, and cheerful personality. Once you have her as a friend, your life will quickly go from being a bore to chock full of the adventures that she manages to pack into everything, from making pancakes to 13-hour car rides.

Some people say that if you’re an optimist, the glass is half full, but I guess Ladybug drinks her water slowly, because as long as I’ve known her, her glass has always been three quarters full. Upon your asking how her day was, she will invariably tell you that it was at least “great!” if not “fantastic!” or “the best day ever!” (which was also yesterday, and the day before). Then she’ll proceed to tell you why it was so amazing, and, even if she only cleaned the kitchen, her enthusiastic response always makes the most exciting things pale in contrast. Besides her optimism, Ladybug’s great claim to fame is that, according to the Meyer’s-Brigg test, she is 96% extroverted. To her, any stranger is fair game for a conversation on bucket list items, or just to be her newest friend…

…If something isn’t an adventure yet, Ladybug will make it one. Sitting in the backseat while your dad pumps gas in seemingly dull Kansas? It must be time to sprint top speed into the gas station to ask if Kansans have southern accents. Sleeping under the stars isn’t fun enough? Then get up at three in the morning and jump in the hot tub. Need a good way to celebrate New Year’s? Ladybug’s solution: sledding down the hill at midnight in your pajamas.

Optimistic. Friendly. Fun. If you looked those words up in a dictionary, they’d all have Ladybug’s picture next to them. But despite the fact that she’s always on the lookout for new friends, Ladybug stays loyal to the friends she already has and sticks with them through the thick and thin. You’d be hard pressed to find someone who doesn’t like Ladybug, and, for me, life without her wouldn’t include nearly as many laughs, long talks, or adventures.

There you have it! Ladybug is a joy. I wish I could say that she got her enthusiasm for life from me, but I pale in comparison. Today Ladybug is taking care of her younger siblings while Russ and I are in Montana at a parent event for Dimples. I am very sad not to be with her today, but look forward to celebrating soon.

Haha. She sounds awesome. Happy Birthday Ladybug! What a contrast to my 15 year old! He just wants to sleep, eat and play on the computer lol. If I can manage to wake him up he can be fun though. No sledding at New Years (but then New Years IS summer here lol)
If we win this boat race all of NZ will be celebrating your birthday- even thought most of them won't know it!
Hope you have fab day and your siblings are perfectly behaved for you lol.

Happy Birthday to Ladybug!. I have a 14 year old granddaughter who could also fit this tribute perfectly. She has always been this way and "Today is the best ever" is often stated by her. When she was younger, one of her teachers asked her mother if she was completely "worn out" when she came home from school, because she spent the day, not only doing her own assignments, but also encouraging all others in the class. She is such a pleasure to be around and seldom thinks of herself. These two girls should meet!
