Household Help While on Vacation

These three helpers traveled from Idaho to assist me on vacation.  They make my life easier on a regular basis and I wasn’t sure I could make it two weeks without them.

The big favorite is the Bosch blender that whips up fruit smoothies in seconds.   Large bags of frozen fruit, bananas, orange juice concentrate, and milk, all from Costco, are a big hit in the afternoons.

I’m cooking very simple meals and enjoying the break from real responsibilities.  Chicken with a jar of Trader Joe’s curry sauce in the crock pot and a full rice cooker was a recent favorite.  We’re also grilling burgers, bratwurst,Teriyaki chicken and anything else simple I can think of.

The big boys arrive late tomorrow night and, with the exception of Mimi and Andrew, we’ll all be together.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

Oh my, I laughed. We have the exact same crockpot, rice cooker, and bosch. Must run in large families. Glad you are thinking simple. You have spurred me on to begin my own journal when we travel to China. It will be a hard time for similar reasons.

Jennifer – our appliances have to be serious work horses! My Bosch is one of the very best purchases I've ever made; we use it daily.

The hydrangeas here are amazing – dark pink, blue-ish purple, and light pink. I wish I could grown them like this in Idaho.

We have the white 7 quart crockpot … the same rice cooker … and a K-Tec Kitchen Machine (very similar to a Bosch). LOVE them all, and use them often.

When we were in Ghana to adopt our kids, we told them we had a rice cooker at home, and they thought we hired a woman to come cook our rice. 🙂

We, too, grill a LOT in the summer. So simple and so yummy! We even have a Coleman Road Trip grill which we can throw in the van real quick and easy so that we can grill our dinner at any of the parks in the area.

Enjoy your time with your Big Kids!

    🙂 🙂 🙂

Great minds think alike! Yes, I'm excited about the big boys arriving. I just hope they make the 1:00 AM ferry and don't end up sleeping at the front of the line for the 5:00 AM ferry.
