Home from Empowered to Connect

We are home from Denver and the Empowered to Connect Conference.  It was phenomenal and I cannot urge you enough to attend the one in Nashville if you possibly can.  As we traveled, Russ and I talked for hours about all that we learned.  Like many couples, I have had more time read to read books and find other sources of information than Russ has.  The conference was an extremely efficient means of soaking up loads of information in  a short amount of time.

There is so much I want to write about, but yesterday I came through the front door with my heart set on being fully present for my children — and that has taken every moment of the day.

Tonight is Noah, Samuel, and Rusty’s Boy Scout Eagle Ceremony so I am off to iron shirts and make dinner.

More soon.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

It was so amazing and I'm so thankful that we were able to go! I'm glad I got to meet you for a moment. 🙂 Our house has already changed for the better, and it's only been two days since ETC. Wow, I can't wait to see where we are in three months. I highly recommend this conference and I think every parent should go twice, both pre and post adoption!

Erin, that is excellent advice. I certainly wish we could have had this training before we brought our first children home. What a difference it would have made for all of us! It was great meeting you too.

it's amazing how good parenting applies to ALL children, and how much our first children still benefit from this way of interacting with people, even before we add others to the mix…we are hearing alot of telling instead of asking, and realizing how much we let slide! i didn't realize how new this was for ETC…wish i could go to all of them just to see how they evolve. I'd like to see her offer conferences in the future that specifically address different areas, ex…one just for older children, or one just for those who deal with newborns and birthmoms.etc. it is just so encouraging to be with others who have found things that work…and it was really fun to meet you and your husband. glad you're home. hope you "find" some time to write about it…that is the hardest part, isn't it? to sneak away from practicing it to document:)

It was great to meet you and to chat for a little bit the other day. i've been thinking about your input as it relates to the 'capacity' issue (trying to be the mom EVERYBODY needs and the home school teacher and the home maker and the wife and…. and…. and…. and….) Thanks for your heartfelt words and encouragement! Processing along with you, sister! ~

Lisa, I am so glad you made the sacrifice to travel to Denver. It was such an amazing conference. Take good care of yourself — this is a marathon, not a sprint. Keep in touch.
