For the Beauty of the Earth

Each morning I wake to see the amazing beauty of this place.  Today Russ and I scooted a love seat in front of a large window and sat sipping coffee, reading, and just being together.  There isn’t much that I enjoy more than that.

Sunday, when we took Dimples to camp, we drove north up Whidbey Island enjoying the scenery as we traveled.  At the north end of the island we crossed stunning Deception Pass.  There wasn’t time to stop on our way to camp, but on the return trip we went into the state park and enjoyed one of the beaches while having a snack.

I was tired and wanted to get back to the house, unload all of our gear from the weekend and the massive quantity of food we had purchased at Costco, but Russ encouraged me to lighten up and enjoy the moment.  I wasn’t in the mood for fun, but after a chocolate chip cookie and some fresh air, I agreed  that the stop was a good idea.  The kids ran on the beach and climbed rocks while I took lots of pictures.

I finished reading One Thousand Gifts today; a gift from my dear friend, Kathleen, that I savored slowly each morning after reading my Bible.  I hesitate to start my own list of 1,000 gifts of thanks, but if there were ever a moment to begin, I believe it is today.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

I've enjoyed reading about your vacation. Enjoy! I read One Thousand Gifts this summer too and have tried to list seven things a day. I am finding it a hard habit to develop. Looking forward to hearing how it goes for you.

I feel the same life long love of this beautiful beach. What a blessing in our families lives! We are at my folks' place this weekend. I would love to meet on the beach flats and get the cousins together!
