Flying By

Little Man loves these glasses that came in a medical kit from a friend – thanks Dorothy! We laugh every time he puts them on.

The days are flying by and although I often think of posting on my blog, there doesn’t seem time to actually do it.

For now, here is a little update:

1. In AHOPE Development news, we have been working very hard on designing t-shirts that will be sold at the Mile High Music Festival in Denver to raise money for AHOPE. Rusty used our logo to create a great design, and Marissa (you can read her blog HERE) and I have been working on details such as which shirts, what color, how many, etc. You would be amazed at the amount of time and thought that has gone into this. Our phone calls are peppered with comments like, “Hold on while I get him a coloring book.” or “Just a second, I need to get Little Man a snack”. We’re not always efficient, but we are persistent!

Brianna (you can read her blog HERE) is the great mind behind AHOPE being represented at the festival. She suggested putting together sponsorship packets that would be available at events in order to allow people to commit to sponsoring a child and give them information about their child immediately. I thought it was a great idea and asked if she would take it on – I don’t know if she intended for her suggestion to become her summer project, but she said yes. AHOPE has not done this before, and we are hoping that this will be an effective means of increasing the number of sponsors we have. We expect to use these packets at many other events and church presentations. We also plan to offer our great shirts online soon.

There are a number of other AHOPE projects in the works, but I have to move on to the next topic which is…

2. Dimples’ hair! It has been five days since I put the twists in and it still looks quite good. Her hair is starting to get just a little bit fuzzy, but I am amazed at how well it is holding up. I’ve been putting oil on it most nights and she has been sleeping in her cap, although we forgot last night.

The most encouraging thing happened on Tuesday when an African American man complimented me on her hair and told me it was just the way his mom had done his sister’s hair when they were growing up. That is some of the highest praise I can imagine receiving.

3. In family news, the kids are going to vacation bible school beginning Monday morning. Rusty is going to be a helper, while Ladybug, Dimples, and Boo are “campers”. I was amazed to learn that the program is from 9:00 – 3:00 PM. As a homeschooler, I never have my kids away from me that long for several days in a row…and I’ll admit to just a teeny bit of anxiety over it…but not a whole lot! If the rest of us can keep Eby and Little Man happy, we just might have a productive week!

On Saturday evening we are heading up to Russ’ parents’ place on the river. We haven’t been there since last fall when they closed it down for the winter, so it will be fun. One of our nephews is there for several weeks, and the cousins are looking forward to being together.

Now I absolutely must write Dimples’ one year post-placement report and ship it off to AAI. I haven’t been able to get enough quiet time to write it, but the four youngest are napping and I have no excuse now.

Please remember to pray for a successful court date on Monday night. We are hoping and believing it can happen on the first try, while trusting in God’s perfect timing.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.
