Five College Graduates in One Week

DSC_0131s

We have three graduations and five graduates in our family this week! Katie, our almost daughter (in-law), earned her Masters degree in history from WSU last Saturday.  Andrew is graduating with his Bachelors degree tonight from New St. Andrews college. This Saturday Noah, Samuel, and our nephew, Caleb are all graduating from the University of Idaho. Noah’s degree is in finance, Samuel’s is mechanical engineering, and Caleb’s degree is in math.

It makes for quite a week! We had a celebratory lunch for Katie last Saturday, are having a champagne celebration for Andrew tonight, followed by a BBQ for Noah, Samuel, and Caleb this Saturday. Andrew’s family arrived from Texas on Tuesday, and the kids had fun swimming at the hotel pool yesterday.  My sister and her family, and my parents arrive Friday night.

Once I decided to stop sweating about my imperfect yard and house, I began to look forward to everyone coming to town. I’m taking the week off of homeschooling to enjoy having such special people with us.

Noah completed his classes a year ago and postponed taking his degree until he had been accepted to medical school. Had he not gotten in this year, he would have taken another class in the fall. Thankfully he had several schools to choose from (we’re so proud of him) and I’ll write a post about that soon. Despite our urging, he decided not to walk in the ceremony – the penalty is that he has to sit with me and his little brothers 🙂 Russ will be sitting with the faculty decked out in his academic regalia.

We have so much to be thankful for.

Do you have anybody special graduating this spring?

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

We can hardly wait to head over the mountains to celebrate our Caleb and all the other family graduates! Oh and see our eldest son Drew who made the trip from VA when he convinced Caleb to walk!

Mikah finishes her cosmetology course on Sat. She has done a great job and we are so proud of her. Lots of firsts for her during the past fifteen months of thirty five hours per week in the classroom/on the floor cutting hair and learning on the go. She passed her state boards with flying colors and now just awaits the license to arrive from the state.

Wow, and what a sweet blessing the graduations from different schools were not at the same time. Enjoy your time off of homeschooling and celebrating with family and friends. Congrats to all.

    God bless

Congratulations to all the graduates! My goodness, what an accomplished family. I think it must be marvelous to know that you home-schooled your boys and so had a major hand in getting them to this day, Lisa. Good job, Mom! And I know Russ taught them well, too. Very impressive how smart your kids are and how dedicated. Enjoy the party and the company.
