Field Trips, Speaking, and a Scratch

Crazy days are continuing as we wrap up our school year. Today I am in beautiful Coeur d’Alene on an end-0f-the-year homeschool field trip with three of my girls.  We are having an amazing time; Idaho is beautiful!  This picture was taken at an infinity pool overlooking Lake Coeur d’Alene.

Tomorrow I speak at my church women’s retreat.  I’m thankful for the opportunity to share such a special day with the women of my church and to teach in a new environment.  My topic is Our Identity in Christ: You are Not an Orphan. I’ll be speaking about our adoption as children of God.  I love this verse:

See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called the children of God. 1 John 3:1

In the midst of all of this, yesterday morning I scratched my cornea as I was drying my hair.  The pain was incredible – imagine on the floor, curled up in a ball, waiting for it to pass, kind of pain.  Our eye doctor got me in within the hour and found a rather large and deep scratch.  She put a protective contact lens on my eye and prescribed hourly eye drops.  It has not been fun, but I am doing my best not to let it interfere with our special field trip or preparing for the retreat.  I see the eye doctor again this afternoon.

Have a fabulous weekend, friends. I have so much to be thankful for that I should make a long list, but my time is gone.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

Did they by any chance record your talks at the women's retreat? I would love to hear it…

Mavis, thanks for asking. They did record it, but I don’t know if it will be available; I’ll find out. I have a link to an audio recording from an earlier conference that I will try to share soon.

I would love to hear your talks too. And I too have scratched my cornea before. It is amazing how it can affect your whole body! I hope it is feeling better. I am late reading this because we were out of town too.
