Family Portrait – 2008

Here is a sneak peek of our family picture for Christmas 2008! Our original plan was to take a nice outdoor picture, but it was cold and windy. Instead we moved the love seat from the bay window in our living room and squeezed the kids in close to it to get some nice light.

I won’t tell you how many shots I had to take to get this picture, but it was a lot. If you are wondering why Russ and I aren’t in the picture, just imagine the great effort it took from both of us to get the youngest five smiling at the same time. We never managed to get Little Man smiling, although we tried, we really did, but I finally had to be content with a non-crying picture.

Maybe we’ll get a picture of all 13 of us next time, but for now, I’m quite content to have a photo of the kids.

P.S. A family photo is a great thing to do early in preparation for the holidays. I got mine printed, wrote a short family update, and included it in the envelope with Honeybee’s adoption announcement. They will be hitting mailboxes soon.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

    LOVE the picture!

I am so sad that we won’t have a family picture with all of our new kids this year. Our kids have been home from Ghana for 7 months now, and we haven’t yet been able to get the whole family on the same continent at the same time, much less together. Right now we have kids living in Germany, Jordan, and Argentina. And, none of them will be home for Christmas.

But … we may have our first family wedding next summer … so we can get a family picture then.

    Blessings!

    Laurel 🙂

Ha Lisa, too funny. When I first saw the picture, I thought of Cheaper by the Dozen!! Christmas Portrait. Only your family is so wonderful and sweet and beautiful and I am so blessed I had a chance to meet you all especially your older ones.

Wow! I’m impressed. I can’t take a portrait of my 2 kids together. I can’t believe you got such a nice photo with all of them looking wonderful.

    Beautiful picture. Beautiful family.

I hope and pray that in about 20 years, I’ll have a family picture like that too.
