Drinking From a Fire Hose

Hello friend, I’m back from a week-long training on Attachment and Trauma by Deborah Gray and several hours of teaching about prenatal exposure by Dr. Ira Chasnoff. This was all followed by the Refresh Conference. Whew! It was a big week.

While there, I thought of you and what I should be remembering to tell you. I scribbled notes like a mad woman, not wanting to miss a single thing. It was like drinking from a fire hose.

Now I’m home, with my head and notebook full of new information. As much as I want to sit down and write amazing posts, I was away from my family and there is lots of catching up to do.

I have not forgotten you! You are always in my mind. I’m trying to be present in simple ways: Instagram (especially my InstaStory) and my OTM Facebook page. Those are quick and easy.

My friend, Melissa, of The Cork Board, interviewed me for her podcast. The conversation went in a direction I don’t usually go, toward my experience as a first/birth mom, as well as my thoughts on parenting teens/young adults, and some fun things too. Let me know if you listen!

I plan to do a FB Live soon. If you haven’t seen my videos, you can find them on my FB page or YouTube channel.  It still feels crazy just typing that; I never imagined I would have a YouTube channel.

By the way, you can get a free download of the beautiful “Courage, dear heart” graphic when you subscribe to my friends-letter. A reader/friend at Refresh showed me her phone which has the graphic as the wallpaper. So pretty! It takes only a minute or two to read and always has something special for my inner circle of readers.

Much love – with courage and hope for the journey.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

Hi Lisa, I wanted to let you know how great the Mom’s Gathering was for me at Refresh. I arrived late because I had been unsuccessfully standing in line for a massage. I found an empty seat even though my impulse was to hide in back. I ended up sitting with delightful women, one of whom I had met several years back. I told them that I honestly could have spent the rest of the conference just chatting with them. And then, much to my surprise, I won a gift basket! It happened to have a lovely ceramic travel coffee mug, with coffee beans and chocolate. I really needed that mug because my 16 yo keeps taking my insulated mugs on the bus each morning. And it more than made up for the missed massage. If any of your generous donors are reading this, thank you! It was uplifting for sure. Thank you for facilitating that gathering, it was one of the highlights of Refresh for me.

This makes my day, Sarah. I loved that morning session and feel so thankful to have been the speaker.
