So many of you are praying for Dimples and our family as she settles in at home. The days are flying by, but I need to pause to tell you that she is doing amazing. I have tears in my eyes just typing that. Let me share a few quick thoughts.
*She is so happy to be home. It was hard to say goodbye in Montana, and she misses her friends and the staff, but she was ready to make the transition.
*She likes her new room! My sweet friend, Amy, gave her a cute lamp, two bright pillows, and a bulletin board. She also collected gift cards from her friends to buy new bedding, and other nice things for Dimples’ room. New curtains are coming too. It’s so fun putting it all together – we couldn’t have made it this special on our own.
*So far, Dimples and Sunshine are inseparable, and they are getting along incredibly well. Their relationship as sisters is growing in a sweet way; Dimples no longer seems to see Sunshine as a competitor for attention, time, resources.
*We kept a set of bunk beds in Dimples’ room, and the girls have already had two sleepovers in the new bedroom.
*Food issues have been nearly nonexistent – a true miracle.
*She is able to accept “no” to a request – another huge and wonderful change (note: that may be the understatement of the year).
*She is appropriately nervous/excited about school.
*She is filling her time in positive ways.
*She is figuring out the boundaries, asking to do things that she wasn’t allowed to do in the past, but accepting the limitations we place. She is almost 13 (!!!!) and knows that there are more freedoms now, especially as she demonstrates that she is trustworthy. I’m having a hard time keeping up with so much change at once. Yesterday I let Dimples and Sunshine ride their bikes to the community gym and pool, but I drew the line at biking to get a Redbox movie on their own.
And in case you’re wondering, the start of school was delayed until September 8th – two weeks late. I have some plans for filling our days at home, and this weekend we head to our favorite family camp ever.
I could go on an on, but I hear the boys cooking eggs in the kitchen and I think a little supervision would be wise. Thank you a million times over for your prayers. And to Amy’s friends who blessed us with gifts for Dimples’ bedroom, she is so excited and thrilled – thank you, thank you, thank you. I’ll share pictures when it’s done.
Friends, thank you for reading, praying, caring, and being part of our journey.
