Denver!

Russ and I made it to Denver and are excited for the Empowered to Connect Conference that starts tomorrow morning.  We had a great time at dinner with some Empowered to Connect and Show Hope folks.  It is great to be with people who are passionate about the things we care about and understand our lives.  Russ and I are honored to know them.

The morning starts bright and early with breakfast and then heading to the church to help with last minute preparations.  I believe 550 people have registered for this conference, the second ETC conference ever, which is fantastic.

If you are attending the Empowered to Connect Conference, please introduce yourself to me!  I can nearly guarantee that I will be overloaded with trying to keep everyone straight, so take pity on me and refresh my memory.  If you aren’t able to attend the conference, I will do my best to share what I can here — and hopefully you’ll make it to the next one.  Nashville is in September and more conferences are in the works.

To add to my happiness, the entire From HIV to Home staff is attending the conference along with our husbands.  I have grown to love these women and can’t believe I’ll see them all tomorrow.  If you are interested in HIV+ adoption, be sure to find one of us.

The kids at home are doing great.  I have a detailed schedule written out and as far as I know, everybody is where they are supposed to be.

I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings;  God always amazes me.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

I was wondering if there was going to be an ECC in the eastern half of the US. We are still trying to go through the book The Connected Child. I think looking into the conference in Nashville might be something for us to consider. The book is very good, just feel completely overwhelmed with what I have been doing wrong and all that I need to change to help my boys. A weekend focused on that specifically would be great.

    Have a wonderfully, blessed weekend!!

Kendra, I loved meeting you too. It worked out so well that you were there for those last moments – Dr. Purvis has such amazing insights. I learn something new just standing next to her. I hope you got some sweet time with your little girl after you got home. Keep in touch.

Karyn, it was an honor for us to be there to serve and take it all in. We loved every minute and look forward to seeing you all again. Russ and I have been home for six hours and I can't tell you how many times I've already said, "Are you asking or telling?" and "Try that again with respect." Thank you for all that you do for children like ours.

    Lauren,
What a bummer that I didn't meet you there! I am a native South Dakotan (but now live in WA state) and would have loved to see who we would know in common. (b/c there is always someone! 🙂 )

What a conference it was! It was amazing on so many levels to be able to be there. Lisa, it was great to see you and Russ and all of the rest of our dear FHTH friends. It was hard to share you with Dr. Purvis and the other ETC members :), but am thankful for the connection you've made with them. I do so hope that we have the opportunity to attend again in the future.

Abbey, I am so glad you were able to make it and loved seeing all of our husbands together. It really was an amazing conference; we've already had several discussions about things we want to do differently and/or better.
