Daddy Slays the Dragon

Little Man with a pencil behind his ear - just like Daddy.

Russ and Samuel got home from Kenya this afternoon, and Russ was asleep within an hour. I feel the weight of being in charge all day, every day, lifting off  me.  The children and I did pretty well in his absence, but we all missed him and the calming influence he has on our home.

I hope to write about their trip, which was absolutely wonderful, but for the moment I want to tell you about  a dream Little Man shared with me this morning.

Mommy, can I tell you about my dream?  It was a real dream, Mom.  There was a big dragon and he was bad.  He blew fire.  He was next to our house and burned it.  Our house was broken.  But then Daddy came and killed the dragon with a sword!  Then he fixed our house.

That’s the man we love.  He protects us, makes us feel secure, and we are safe in his love.

More soon – especially if Russ keeps sleeping.

I couldn't resist sharing one more smile.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

Little man is so cute you almost want to eat him up. What a great metaphor for how daddies love and protect their children. Looking forward to spending time together next week end.
