Commencing

What a weekend we had!  Mimi graduated from college Saturday and it was a great celebration.  Living in the academic world, with semesters coming and going and kids graduating from something nearly every year, sometimes we forget how significant graduations are.  The pomp of yesterday’s Commencement was a good reminder for me of all of the hard work Mimi did to earn her degrees, a B.A, in English and a B.S. in Public Relations.  If only I could get her to write for me!

It is especially satisfying when one of our children graduates from the university where Russ is a professor.  I loved seeing Russ and Mimi in their robes.

We had a wonderful family time because my sister, Laura, and her family were here for the weekend (moving my nephew home for the summer) and my parents also came to celebrate with us.  H just started her ER rotation, so she was unable to be home, but I am thankful so many of us were here.

Next year will be the “Blue Eyed Graduation.”  Of our eleven children, three have blue eyes, and all three will graduate in the spring of 2012. H will graduate from medical school, N will graduate with his Bachelor’s degree, and I. will graduate from high school.  As our children grow older there are continual transitions and sometimes it is hard to grasp it all as it happens so quickly.

This is going to be a busy week, but I hope to find some pockets of time to blog.  Have a great Monday.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.
