Braces and Birthdays

Our journey to the orthodontist began at 4:45 AM when Russ woke me. Within an hour we were in the car driving on snowy roads. Russ considered turning around, but they had made such an effort to get both kids’ appointments in the morning on the same day that we hated to cancel. There was a little excitement when Ladybug got carsick and we had to pull over on snowy roads to help her.

It was barely light when we finally arrived at the office.

We were twenty minutes late, but we finally made it. After we got Rusty settled at the orthodontist, I ran to Target and bought a pair of pants while Ladybug waited in the car. Her original pants were adversely affected by the carsickness episode. We made it back just in time for her appointment.

Rusty and Ladybug now have braces and rather sore teeth, but we assure them it will be worth it.

We arrived home to find Boo and her friend having a lovely afternoon. With Sweet Pea’s help, they made the cutest cake and were so proud to show it to us.

Boo loved her birthday and especially enjoyed the twin baby dolls we gave her. She has told me at least four times that they are her favorite present ever. She named them Edmund and Gaylia, after a special baby we know and one of her grown up cousins. These are not fancy, expensive dolls, yet she is enjoying them so much. It makes my heart happy to see it.

Tonight we are heading to our friends’ home for a New Year’s Eve party. I expect Russ and I will head home with our younger children long before midnight!

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

Shouldn't the orthodontist sign say, "Paid for by Lisa!" LOL!

We are currently on our SIXTH set of braces. I cannot even ADOPT children who do not need them!
