Books, Brianna, Babies

Yes, I stole this from Brianna's blog. They just look so cute.

Yesterday brought the stomach flu and today brought recovery.  Sunshine greeted me with a big smile this morning and said, “Mommy, I’m all better!”  The day has been filled with warmth, sunshine, playing outside, two phone calls from friends, a visit from another, and some especially encouraging words.  I also thoroughly cleaned my kitchen (while talking to a friend), put laundry away, and tidied up my room. It feels good, very good.

I also have happy news to share.  My friend, and co-worker at From HIV to Home, Brianna, is in the process of adopting two little sweethearts from Ethiopia.  Both of the little girls have Down Syndrome.

If you don’t know Brianna and her family, and even if you do, head to her blog to read Adoption, Us, and the 21st Chromosome.

As you all know, it is very expensive to adopt children, and when the children have special medical needs, there are many expenses after they are home as well.

From HIV to Home allows families adopting children with any significant medical need (not just HIV) to open a grant fund with us and then use the funds raised toward approved adoption expenses and /or treatment once the child is home.  This gives families a means to accept tax-deductible donations which can be very helpful.

Jennifer, a mutual friend and fellow co-worker at FHTH is hosting an online Usborne book party with all proceeds going to Brianna’s grant.  Remember when we were talking earlier about getting our Christmas shopping done early — here is a great opportunity.

Be sure to check out some of our favorites, The Mouse About the House, The Complete Collection of Farmyard Tales, and the I Can Draw series.

[If you would like to make a donation directly to Brianna and Kevin’s grant, please email me for more information.]

Off to cook dinner!

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.
