Beautiful Words

Before naps we usually read a bible story and another book or two. Yesterday I read the story
about Jesus healing the ten lepers and of the ten only one of them returned
to thank him. I asked the girls some questions about the story and then I asked,
“Is there something that Jesus has done for you that you want to thank him
for?” K. said, “Yes”. When I asked her what it was, she put her head
down and softly said, “Jesus come and give me family.”

My heart could have burst. I put my arm around her and said, “Yes, Jesus gave you a family and He gave us our beautiful daughter.”

Some days are still a challenge, but I was so encouraged by her words. She is absolutely loving and dear and attachment continues to grow in our hearts.

God is good.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

Lisa, that story is a killer. Praise the Lord for leading us all this life of adoption. To think of the blessings that we may have missed.
