Back to School Lunches and Snacks


Lance review W As we ramp up toward the school year, I’m thinking about lunch boxes, backpacks, school supplies, and the task of packing lunches and snacks. How about you? I was given the opportunity to review Lance Sandwich Crackers which seemed like a great fit for our family, so I agreed. I’m always on the lookout for healthy foods to tuck in the kids’ backpacks for them to grab during recess or before the bus ride home. On our painfully long trip home from Whidbey Island, we stopped at a store and picked up four varieties of Lance Sandwich Crackers, which we sampled as we continued down the highway.

First we tried the Toast Chee variety which is two toasty baked cheese crackers with real peanut butter in between. These were a hit with everyone and Eby’s favorite. Next we sampled Whole Grain, two hearty crackers with cheddar cheese between. These are flavorful and nicely salty. Russ especially liked them. Not only does Lance make sandwich crackers for lunches and snacks, but they also make Quick Start Breakfast Biscuit Sandwiches. There are several varieties; we chose Raspberry Greek Yogurt and Everything Bagel. Believe it or not, everything bagels are hands down our family’s favorite bagel, so we were pretty sure we would like these, and that turned out to be the case. They are crisp and flavorful with a yummy filling. The surprise of the day was the Quick Start Raspberry Greek Yogurt. A raspberry yogurt filling is sandwiched between sweet granola crackers. Everyone liked these. Lance Sandwich Crackers are a hit with our family. They are super portable, filling, and easy to grab when you’re in a hurry, which is a bonus. Little Man loved the slogan, “they are two awesomes on the outside and an incredible in between. This is how we sandwich,” and repeated it numerous times, especially as he asked to sample one after another. He cracks us up. When Lance makes a sandwich, they put two awesome things on the outside and something incredible in the middle. Tell us how you make a sandwich in the comments section!

    Snacks are difficult with diet restrictions: gluten free and dairy free really help my kids so I am committed to sticking with them. Snacks I choose are: hard boiled eggs, applesauce with flax meal (to add some good fats), chia pudding (made with coconut milk), rice cakes with peanut butter or almond butter, hummus with gf crackers, rice cakes, carrot sticks, celery, cucumbers – pretty much any veggie you can cut up; avacado, fruit, homemade trail mix made with banana chips, coconut flakes, nuts, seeds, and raisins. As a quick grab, applesauce single servings in the little packets, gf granola bars (but be careful of the sugar content – many are the equivalent to eating a candy bar).

    Lance crackers used to be one of our favorite snacks… Until peanut allergies. Our youngest is anaphylactic, and we have to be so careful to not have things that are manufactured on shared equipment. Their PB crackers are so yummy, though! Too bad we can't eat them! Our favorite snacks are apples, clementines, popcorn & rice crackers.
