Another Child Lost

Another one of our beautiful children at AHOPE died last Friday. Tsion was a darling seven year old girl who died of complications from measles. When we met her one year ago, she was a very happy, sparkly little girl who asked me to take her picture over and over. I wish I could post it here so you could see her sweet face, but despite being an orphan who has now died, we still have to respect our own policies of not sharing photos of the children.

Tsion did not yet have adoptive parents, so it isn’t necessary to inform her prospective family of her death, but that in and of itself breaks my heart. This little girl died with no mother or father to grieve for her, miss her, or remember her. All of the children at AHOPE are either double orphans or, in a small number of cases, they may have one living parent who is near death. These children desperately need families and with proper medical care, the kind of care we can provide in the United States and other developed countries, children with HIV can thrive.

My heart breaks for Tsion, but I take comfort in the knowledge that she will never suffer again, or be afraid, or lonely, because she is with Jesus now. Please pray for the staff and children of AHOPE who are grieving. Please also pray for protection against illness for the children, who despite the benefits of ARV medications, are immunocompromised and vulnerable to measles and other diseases.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

I will be praying for the children and for more people to adopt HIV + children.

http://www.redletterscampaign.com/ is trying to get the word out about the need. I know that they would love to have your voice added to the many who share your passion for the children.

I’m so sorry about this news. To know that jesus’ arms are around her giving her everything she needs now. God Bless Tsion

How very sad, but comforting to know she is home with Jesus.
