An HIV Adoption Story

My friend, Erin, just shared this article about a couple who adopted an HIV+ baby from India.

An HIV Adoption Story

Published by Parenting, the article is nicely done.

Tomorrow I am taking eight of the kids to a big Christmas party in Spokane. I would be completely excited, except I have to drive my big van and it is too tall for the parking garage. I’m a wimp when it comes to parking my big van in unfamiliar, hilly places. As long as it doesn’t snow, we should be fine.

I’ll let you know!

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

I didn't know y'all were near Spokane! My husband grew up there – he's a University High grad. Safe driving!

Oh My. Spokane…"Spokalooloo" as we fondly called it growing up in Newport just on the Pend Oreille River (If you have gone to Priest Lake, you most likely stopped in Newport to stock up at Safeway!). A couple friends have recommended your blog, and I am really enjoying it. We have five children – 4 are biological, 1 multi-racial domestically adopted, and we just heard we have a court date coming up for adopting two little boys from Ethiopia! Most of my family are still in the Spokane/Liberty Lake area and on the Seattle side. We go back (from Ohio) every 2-3 years to visit. Looking forward to learning from your wisdom and insights, and maybe we'll cross paths someday! Oh the Northwest!
