A New Blog Location and Birthday Gifts

As you just noticed, my blog has moved back to Blogspot. This is where I originally started, but then we moved it to a private site. Please update your bookmark, if you have one for my blog. By moving back, I am able to make use of labels on my posts which organizes them into broad topics. I am also going to make some changes to the sidebars, including organizing the links to make them easier to use. Rusty is particularly happy about working on it and created the nice blog header for me last night.

September kicks off birthday season for our family. With the addition of our three children, we now have birthdays in September (1), October (2), December (1), January (2), March (2), April (2), May (1), June (1). This year the kids are all switching to odd numbered ages, ranging from 0ne to twenty-one.

This year when Russ asked me what I wanted for my birthday two things immediately came to mind. First, I wanted him to help me paint our bedroom. We have lived in our house for eight years and nearly every room has been painted at least once, but our bedroom had never made it to the top of the list. I have thought about colors for a long time, pulling pages out of magazines and putting them in a folder that is full of “great ideas” for our house. Last Friday I recruited H and MK to help me, along with their friend, and we painted. Russ came home in time to do the most tricky edging which he and MK can both do freehand. He also got roped into helping me move all of the furniture.

My other birthday request involved the dining room. Last year we painted it a beautiful dark brownish-red. We have always had maps on our dining room walls since it doubles as a schoolroom, but the edges of our old maps were tattered, so I ordered new ones, from Swift Maps to replace them. These maps are current, but done in rich, antique colors so they match the walls. The problem was that they were too nice to put up with thumbtacks. So the maps sat still in the tube they had arrived in and periodically we talked about how we would hang them. Yesterday we took the plunge and decided to have them framed. They will be done in two weeks and I’ll post a picture of how great they look.

The maps look like this:

To make my birthday even better, this morning we woke up to 4- 6 inches of snow, so hopefully some photos will follow later today.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.
