A Good Choice

It’s a busy morning at our house, but I have to share something positive that already happened today. Dimples came downstairs and crawled into the comfy chair.  I quietly kissed her on the forehead and greeted her while she sat silently, still waking up.  Then she asked if she could use my ipod to listen to The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.  I nearly clapped my hands!  It is so satisfying to see her make healthy choices and it always encourages me.  Making note of the positives is essential for me because it is far too easy to wallow in the negatives.

The pool opened Thursday, and although it was raining a little we were there with a handful of friends.  The moms were primarily dressed in long pants and hoodies, while the kids were shivering in swimsuits.  Everyone was happy and the boys fell asleep quickly that night. Friday we worked hard all morning, even getting dinner in the crock pot, before loading up in the car to head to the pool.  Just as I turned the key in the ignition, I got a call that the pool was closed.  My children who don’t handle disappointment well were complete messes, but we made it through.

Sweet Pea and Noah just crossed the border of Minnesota and will arrive in Minneapolis this afternoon.  I’ve been sharing photos on my One Thankful Mom Facebook page – click the “Like” button in the sidebar if you would like to see them.

Have a great weekend. I have a Sunday Visit in the works for tomorrow.

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

yay! it's GOOD to remember the positives! thanks for the reminder!

    i have one.

the other night at a baseball game, my mom witnessed a positive from lincoln. he was walking and passed a pile of popcorn someone had spilled. he stopped. looked. bent down. piled the popcorn into a tighter pile. picked a piece up. looked at it. dropped it (!) and walked away.

    for him this is huge.

Yesterday we were leaving a graduation party, I told my little man that it was time to go, and even though he was in the middle of playing a game, he asked very politely, "Can I throw 3 more bean bags Mama?" I said, "Sure!" He threw the bags, and walked over to me ready to go to the car. No fits. Not even a complaint – just an ask for an compromise and then compliance. A-maz-ing. I still can't even believe it.
