A Beautiful Sight!

Oh yes, after snowing all morning yesterday, we have sunshine today! The children are playing outside as I type, and, as you can see, it feels quite warm to them. I am so thankful!

We love our house, it has a great layout, is a style we like, and is completely adequate for our needs. However, sometimes I long for my little ranch house in Colorado. It wasn’t beautiful, or even very big, but it had something this house doesn’t – a big old basement with ugly carpet and poor lighting, that made a fantastic playroom. While this house is much prettier (except the one ugly blue carpet that appears in so many pictures), the only play space is right under my feet and after a long winter, I am ready for a little breathing room.

Normally bedrooms can double as playrooms, but the way our family is configured, one bedroom goes to Sweet Pea and Mimi, another goes to the three big boys, one is for me and Russ, and the last one (a large one) is for the six youngest children. This configuration has made it hard to have play space in the bedroom. We have been creative and had play spaces in a wide hallway, and special toys in the living room, but I miss the days when I could say, “Go downstairs and play!”

I will add that with some of the issues we have been dealing with in our family, having room to spread out is going to be a good thing. Too much togetherness tends to increase stress for certain little ones.

Welcome Spring – I am happy to see you!

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

Spring is so hopeful. Lovely pictures, and amen to the playroom. I’m glad to see the trampoline will be sprining again.
