10,000 Days

Today, October 26, 2011, Russ and I have been married for 10,000 days.

Ten Thousand

I smile every time I think of it.

Those days hold:

thousands of mornings waking together

hours of long conversations

hopes and dreams

mistakes

so much love

selfishness

birthing seven children, Russ always with me

sickness – mild and severe

tears

laughter

miles run and walked

owning two homes

moving across the country, and back again

graduating from college together

Russ graduating again, and again, and one last time

money gained and lost

faith growing in our hearts

prayer, worship, repentance, forgiveness, baptisms, communion, prayer

sorrow

meals shared

friendships

falling in love with the face of a child – her photograph on our refrigerator

traveling to Ethiopia for two little boys and one little girl

becoming a family of 12

one more trip to Ethiopia for another little girl

Now we are 13

The marriage of a daughter, and gaining a son

depth of understanding

trust

faithfulness to one another

better

worse

richer

poorer

sickness

health

love

cherish

til death do us part

Amen

Lisa

Let me introduce myself. Russ and I are the parents of twelve children by birth and adoption, and sometimes more through foster care. I'm the creator of One Thankful Mom which has been as much of a gift to me as to my readers. In 2011 I became a TBRI® Pracitioner* and have lived and breathed connected parenting ever since. I'm deeply honored to be the co-author, together with the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, of The Connected Parent; it is her final written work. I love speaking at events for adoptive and foster parents. I'm also the co-founder of The Adoption Connection, a podcast and resource site for adoptive moms. I mentor and encourage adoptive moms so you can find courage and hope in your journeys of loving your children well.

Mamma, what a lovely post! It made me get all teary-eyes. 10,000 days reminds me of "Amazing Grace" – "When we've been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, we've no less days to sing God's praise than when we've first begun."

You made me figure it out for us—December 22nd when we are in VA for Drew's graduation. Still can't believe Dad and Mom did two weddings in one summer!
