We are delighted to announce that our daughter, Mimi, is engaged to be married to her love, Andrew!  The wedding is planned for July 17th.

We have already had a flurry of wedding planning activity and have lots to do in the next five months.  Mimi found her dress on her first shopping trip, in the first store, and I must say it is completely stunning.

The prettiest church in town has been rented (our church meets in a gym), and the reception will be in our backyard.  We have been telling all of the guys, Andrew included, that this will be the summer of yard work.  We hope to finally put in the patio we have wanted for ten years.

I’ll have more to share about planning the wedding over the next few months.

For now the thought that keeps coming to me is that the wedding is not a performance, it is the celebration of our daughter’s marriage to the young man she loves.  We are inviting the people who love them and love us to celebrate with us.  This should be a warm and wonderful day, not a stress-filled event designed to make an impression.  We want the wedding and reception to bring glory to God, not to ourselves.   As we make decisions, the question we want to keep in mind is, “Does this make Jesus look good?”, not “Does this make us look good?”

A new phase of our lives is about to begin – thanks be to God.

Congratulations, what a beautiful couple they are. May the Lord bless them as they begin their journey. I love how you say that this is not a performance but a celebration of their love and how this joyous event should glorify God. We go to so many weddings that are so over the top, I can't even imagine the small fortune some people pay, it's great that you are so grounded and keep it all in perspective

Congratulations! What a lovely and unique ring. Gorgeous!

Our oldest daughter is only 13, but I really do think of backyard receptions when I'm making yard plans. The dogwood trees I'll be planting on the hill this year will be a perfect backdrop for the receiving line.

Hey, it takes time to grow a tree. I need to plan ahead!

    Blessings to the young couple!

We have started wedding plans with 2 of our sons … but both of those engagements were called off by the young ladies. So sad! Now, we have 3 other Big Kids that believe they may have found "the ONE". But, sadly, this mama is having a hard time getting too excited. I'm much more fearful for their tender hearts than I was before.

I know that you, too, have experienced the mama's heartache of a broken engagement, so I hope that you can see much HOPE in this relationship (and not compare to the last).

I LOVE your attitude going in to it. What a testimony I am sure your family will be, as you walk this journey with FAITH and GRACE. Your family WILL bring honor to HIM through this celebration of love.

I'll be watching closely … because once we start actually having weddings, we could easily have 6 in 4 or 5 years. Yikes! Hopefully, then, I'll have a year or two to catch my breath before the 2nd set of 6 kids starts walking down the aisle.

Hey … young son is moving to Spokane next month (will be at Eastern Wa. Univ.). I'll let you know if/when we can swing down your way. Young son will be living with family friends … so there is room for our family to go visit.

First off, huge congrats to your beautiful MK and her future groom. What a beautiful couple. Duh, I should have know to look at your blog first instead of waiting for Danica to come home looking at her facebook. I had no idea you had this huge makeover of your website… Amazing

How exciting! I love your perspective on the wedding being to making God look good, not your own selves pulling off a spectacular event. I pray I remember that in 20-some years!
And neither here nor there…my oldest son's name is Andrew, and his birthday is July 17th! We'll be thinking of you all at his 8th birthday party! :)
