The sun is coming up on a brand new year. Our house is quiet – likely due to the fact that everyone was up long past bedtime; despite that, sleep still doesn’t come easily for me.
The last day of 2012 found me traveling north to pick up Dimples. She had asked if I would bring her Christmas gifts, which I did, but I had no plan for how and when to give them to her. Dimples climbed in the car, ate a few bites of the snack I had packed, and then asked if she could open the presents. As I drove along at 60 mph, she opened one after the other, and I thought to myself that when I carefully chose these gifts, I never dreamed that this was how she would receive them. Thankfully, she liked her gifts, even saying at one point, “Even when I don’t get exactly what I want, I can still be happy.” Profound words from my girl.
For many reasons, it isn’t quite time for Dimples to come home, so we drove to Aunt Michele’s, whose house is packed with family arriving for her son’s wedding. She was greeted with hugs and smiles, and settled in for the evening. Today I will pick Dimples up and we’ll go to a friend’s house to do hair. Melissa’s daughter also has locs, so for the second time, we’ll have a loc tightening party, complete with movies and lots of fun distractions to help the time pass.
I’m ready for a new year. I would love to say that I’m sure it will be a better than 2012, but truthfully, I don’t know what 2013 is going to bring. What I am sure of is that we’ll have opportunities to grow in faith and love, that God will work many things for our good, and that Jesus will be with us every single moment of every single day.
Thank you again for your emails and messages – honestly, you are the most wonderful, supportive community I could hope for.
This is the book that is kicking off my year – it is just what I need:
